Pet People Family

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In short, we want to  help your pet stay  as healthy as possible. We will do this by encouraging you to keep them fully vaccinated, getting a  microchip, keeping their internal and external parasites at bay and giving you unlimited access to our vets and nurses for information, advice, or an examination whenever they need it.

  • Yes, the charges have been calculated to ensure that you will save money by taking out this plan. Plus, you have total peace of mind that your pet can access unlimited free consultations with our qualified vets and nurses. Most people will save on average about £100 per year.

  • Payments are taken by direct debit on the first or 15th of every month and we will always ensure Pet People Family members are saving money. Current prices start at only £38.40 for dogs and £36.00 for cats. We also have a Family plan to help care for our pet rabbits which costs £25.20.

  • Yes, if your  pet needs to be seen, we will see them and there will be no charge for our time.

  • By filling out an annual health questionnaire, you can help our vets formulate a bespoke treatment plan for you and your pet. Each pet is unique and so their needs are also unique. The Pet People Family plan helps to keep them healthy and deliver care when they are not.

  • Unfortunately, because of dispensing regulations, we are unable to dispense more than what your pet requires. To help make life easier and so you don’t forget, we will send out reminders when their medications are due. We can also post out the medications, if you can't make it into the clinic, for a small fee.

  • Because your pets’ requirement may change from one month to the next, we only supply 3 months at a time. Plus, we really want to see you both in the clinic even if it is to have a happy visit and say “hello”.

  • To make things as straightforward and easy as possible, we only have one price, irrespective of their age or weight.

  • The plan runs for 12 months but will automatically renew (you will be informed of this). So, you will never be without the peace of mind of being able to see a vet or vet nurse, without having to pay.

  • You can cancel your policy at any time should you wish. We will require 2  weeks notice to stop the payments and make sure all the admin is sorted. Please email us at family@smart-vet.co.uk and we will do the rest.

  • If you set up and immediately cancel your policy after receiving any treatments, then you will only be invoiced for the difference between what you paid to the health plan and what the treatments cost. If you have had the policy for more than six months there will be no charges should you decide to cancel.

  • Yes, you can. You can sign up online in the practice and start saving straight away. Please bring your bank details (account number and sort code) to set up the direct debit.

  • Unfortunately, we can’t back date any of the benefits, however, because you are getting such a great deal, and peace of mind it makes complete sense to sign up become a family member at any time.

  • Out of hours care is delivered by a separate clinic who are not part of Pet People. The benefits from the health plan are therefore not available with them. To give you peace of mind, we offer all family members free 24/7 online veterinary support via VidiVet. We also hope that as a family member, you will take advantage of the free consultations, bring your pet to see us sooner and minimise the need to use the out of hours emergency service.

  • There is a surcharge applied in addition to the consultation charge for home visits. Family members will just have to pay the surcharge element of the home visit.

  • The Family policies are designed to run alongside your existing insurance policy and not an alternative. Pet People Family offers an easy and affordable way to give your pet the best preventative health care and to keep them healthy. It does not cover unexpected illnesses or accidents.

  • Not at all, we welcome all your pets regardless of their health and medical history. Please note, however, it is just consultations with the veterinary surgeons or nurses that are covered. Medications, diagnostic tests (both in house and at the lab), investigations and surgery are all charged at our normal prices.

  • Please find details online at www.smart-vet.co.uk/family or speak to any of our reception team who are always happy to help.
