The CT Clinic
Our commitment to providing the best possible care for your pets has led us to the arrival of our cutting-edge CT scanner.
This machine uses multiple x-rays to create detailed 3D images of internal structures. This non-invasive imaging procedure allows us to gain valuable insights into their health without causing any discomfort.
What is a CT Scanner and how does it work?
A CT (Computed Tomography) scanner is a sophisticated medical imaging technology which is used in veterinary practice to provide detailed cross-sectional images of a pet's internal structures.
A CT scanner takes multiple X-ray images of a pet, from various angles around their body. These images are processed by a computer to create three-dimensional images, offering veterinarians a comprehensive view of the pet's anatomy.
In veterinary practice, CT scanning aids in the accurate diagnosis of various conditions, such as tumours, fractures, and internal injuries. It is non-invasive and relatively quick, making it an essential tool for obtaining precise diagnostic information. Using a CT scanner assists veterinarians in planning precisely tailored treatment strategies for each pet's needs.
Why are CT scanners used?
Although we can often determine a lot from traditional x-rays, ultrasounds, and blood work, CT scanning is the next step in advanced imaging to help us reach a diagnosis more quickly. It can be especially beneficial in the diagnosis of:
Orthopaedics issues (bone fractures/ dysplasia/tumours)
Head and spinal injury
Tumours
Cancer staging
Respiratory problems
Foreign material (swallowed items/grass seeds etc)
Portosystemic Shunts
Sentinel Lymph Node Mapping
CT Pricing – Simple & Transparent
We have simplified our pricing structure to make CT scans more accessible and predictable for pet owners and referring vets:
Single Site CT Scan – £1,250
Includes sedation or general anaesthetic. Ideal for elbow imagingComplete CT Scan - £1,750
up to 4 anatomical areas. Includes sedation or general anaesthetic, contrast studies and a full written report
Advanced CT Scan - £2250
Advanced imaging including Sentinel Lymph node mapping or Portosystemic Shunt investigation
These prices apply to both our clients and referrals from local veterinary practices. We believe that fixed pricing provides clarity and helps vets confidently recommend CT scans to their clients.
Will my pet need to be asleep?
It is important that your pet remains as still as possible whilst the CT scan is taking place, therefore an anaesthetic or deep sedation will be required. Your pet will then be cared for in recovery by our wonderful nursing team before they return home.
How Long Does It Take to Get Results?
Once your pet’s scan is completed, the images are sent to the specialist radiologists at Vehari for expert interpretation.
Standard reports take a few working days.
Urgent or emergency cases can be prioritised for same-day results.
In some cases we are able to offer same-day reporting for all scans to ensure quicker diagnoses and treatment plans.
Expanding Access to CT Scans
To make CT scanning even more convenient, we are:
Introducing weekend scanning for straightforward cases (Saturdays & Sundays)
Prioritising same-day reporting for faster turnaround times
Do I need to be a client of PetPeople to have a CT of my pet?
No— you do not. Although of course we would love to have you on our books, we offer outpatient CTs for clients who are registered elsewhere.
