Katie's route to veterinary was anything but conventional. An art foundation year led to an English Literature degree, which led to a two-year fine art diploma specialising in portraiture – and somehow, eventually, to PetPeople. She joined just after the doors opened in 2022, starting out in the customer care team, and has been here ever since, watching the practice grow from strength to strength. These days she's more likely to be found in the back office with spreadsheets and insurance paperwork, building the processes and systems that free the team to focus on what matters most – looking after pets and their people.

At home, Katie shares her space with three cats she describes as house goblins. Raffy and Max are burmilla littermates – snuggly, sociable and still behaving like naughty kittens despite their age. The third, known as Spicy Cat (or The Baby), is a foster fail who rules the household with an iron paw. The fact that she's tiny and adorable somewhat undermines her authority. Katie is also, it should be noted, a member of three separate group chats dedicated entirely to cat photos.

Outside work, Katie still takes on illustration and painting commissions, and has recently been working on an enormous mural. She tends an allotment growing exclusively unusual produce – tomatillos and cucamelons among them – and many of the plants at reception started life as cuttings from her own collection. She's a trustee of a charity supporting disabled and medically complex cats and, inevitably, keeps finding herself fostering more. She grew up in a theatre family and has a particular love of musicals and theatrical costume design. When she's not doing any of that, she's working through a podcast, learning something new, or looking for an excuse to visit a museum.
